Chikankari is literally translated as 'Embroidery'. Chikankari is one of the oldest known forms of embroidery and has has mentions in ancient scriptures, wherein people have been described to have been wearing muslin clothes with embroidery. This fine needle art, from Lucknow, is painstaking and takes hours to create. The subtle designs are usually found in pastel colours. The subtle elegance of Chikankari has no bounds.
