Ilkal Sarees
Ilkal is a town in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka. Known for its weaving centres that date back to the 8th century AD, Ilkal has had an important contribution to the history of crafts in India. One of the most fascinating details of the Ilkal saree is the joining of the wefts of the saree with its pallu with a technique called Tope Teni. The body of these sarees is pure cotton and the pallu and borders are made of silk. The Ilkal saree has now been granted a Geographical Indication and rightfully so!
